عِناتا اِتاھِين، جانِي جَڙي ٻَڌُ،
آھي گهَڻو اَھکو، فَقِيريءَ جو فَندُ،
چَکين تَہ چَرِئو ٿِيين، مَيخاني جو مَندُ،
ڪِينَ ڪَڍَندين ڪَنڌُ، مَنجهان سَڱُ سَيِّدُ چئَي.

Oh, "Jani"! It would be wiser to keep "Inayat" (your son) bound and secure at your home** Embracing the life of a renunciant is a challenging path** Even you, yourself, would become disoriented if you were to indulge in wine at the tavern** The "Syed" says: "'Inayat' shall not depart from my relation**" (Note: The back ground of the above verse is as under: "'Inayat' son of "Jani", a local landlord, visited the "Abdul Latif" (The poet) and remained with him to serve as a disciple** "Jani" rebelled against the idea and he forced back his son** "Inayat" again returned to "Shah", and his father again took him back** This happened seven times** On the eighth occasion when "Jani" came to take away his son, the poet composed and recited the above verse** The result was that "Jani" left his son with "Shah" for good**)

عِنَاتَا اِتَاہٍ جَانِيْ جَرٖيْ ٻَندُ﮶
آَهٖيْ کَنُوْن اَهْکُوْ فَقِيْرِيَ جُوْ فَندُ﮶

सिन्धी देवनागिरी

इनाता इताहीं। जानी जड़ी ब॒धु।
आहे घणु अहखो। फ़क़ीरीअ जो फ़ंदु।
चखीं त चरिओ थियीं। मैख़ाने जो मंदु।
कीन कढंदें कंधु। मंझाँ संङ सयिदुरह चए

Chakheen ta chariyo thyen, meKhane jo mand'u,

  • O Jani! Better bind and detain (your son) lnayat at your place. The complex of a renunciant is indeed very difficult to adopt: You yourself will get made if you were to taste wine at the tavern. The Syed says: "lnayat shall not part with my society".

    O Inayat, let Jani keep you embedded there,
    The path of asceticism is very difficult,
    If you tasted wine of this tavern, you will go mad,
    One can't wriggle free of such a relationship, says Sayyad.


    جا عنایتا(٭) دل دے پنجرے پا جانی(#) وس آوے
    اوکھا راہ فِکر دا کوئی ولِا پندھ مکاوے
    اِس میخانے دی جس پیتی اَوہ جھلا ہوجاوے
    اِس ڈھانے چوں کوئی نا تینوں سید کڈھ سکے گا
    (٭) بھٹائی دا مرید جیہڑا بیت وڈے زمیندار دان پُت سی۔ (#) جانی عنایت دا پیو، ایتھے جانی محبوب توں مراد اے


    بزم خلد بریں سے بڑھ کر ہے
    ساقیا! مجھ کو تیرا میخانہ
    ہوگئی اس کی زندگی سرشار
    جس نے چکھ لی، ہوا وہ دیوانہ
    کون جانے کہ کیوں ہے مے آلود
    یہ مرا خرقۂ فقیرانہ
