Under the cloak of night, the ascetics set forth on their journey towards the east, sealing their abode** At the break of dawn, their voices remained hushed, as if absorbed by the tranquil morning air** These ascetics, as a collective, stand apart from any worldly ties, devoid of connections to those unaffected by their calling**

  • The eastward bound ascetics closed their dwelling house at midnight time. I did not hear their voice at dawn time. (They have obviously gone away). As a class these ascetics are not relatives of (or interested in) any non affected persons.
Note: (1) ‘Poorbias’ are known as ‘lshrakian’. They constitute a sect of ascetics or philosophers who pray to God with their faces turned towards east. They claim to be illuminate, possessing special enlightenment to know the hidden things.
TRADITION: The Prophet once pointed to the East and said: “there lies the mischief Satan’s ‘horn’ rises there” (so that the sun-worshippers may offer their worship in that direction).

Wayfarers of the East, at mid-night left, closing their huts,
At dawn sound of sanyasis was not heard,
Such is ascetics kind that they befriend not the unaffected ones.

The pilgrims of the East closed their dwellings at midnight,
I did not hear their chants at dawn,
Such is their class that they do not relate to the grief-stricken.
